Driving Test


Arrival Checklist:
  • A driving test will start with the following checklist:
    • Turn on engine
    • Adjust your rear view mirrors
    • Adjust your side mirrors
    • Turn on the emergency lights
    • Turn on low-beam headlights
    • Turn on high-beam headlights
    • Use left and right signal lights
    • Show the arm signals to turn left, right, and stop
    • Turn on brake lights
    • Pull the parking brake
    • Roll down the driver window
    • Turn on your windshield wipers.
    • Turn on the defroster
    • Blow the horn
    • Open the passenger door
    • Open the glove box
    • Put on the seat belt



Information:
  • There are few items the examiner will look out for during the driving test. 
    • Current regulations say that you may not miss more than the following:
      • 3 items in the Arrival Checklist
      • 15 items in the Driving Test
      • 0 items in the Automatic Failing Errors
    • There are few errors that will result in an Automatic Fail:
      • Speeding
      • Right-of-way violation
      • Not following safety personnel or safety vehicles
      • Striking or Hitting of objects or the curb
      • Lane violations
      • Not following the traffic sign or signal
      • Driving dangerously
      • Use of auxiliary equipment (e.g. cellphone)
      • Not following examiner's instruction


Driving Test:
  • Driving out of the parking lot:
    • Are you speeding?
    • Are you watching out for other pedestrians?
  • Driving out of the DMV onto a residential area:
    • Are you watching out for traffic?
    • Are you following the traffic signals?
    • Are you speeding?
    • Do you leave enough space to other cars?
    • Are you in the correct lane?
  • Changing lanes:
    • Are you watching out for traffic?
    • Are you following the traffic signals?
    • Are you speeding?
    • Do you leave enough space to other cars?
    • Are you in the correct lane?
    • How is your steering control?
    • Are you looking over the appropriate shoulder?
  • Intersections going straight with right-of-way:
    • Are you checking out the traffic?
    • Are you doing an unneccessary stop?
    • Are you yielding?
    • Are you speeding?
  • Stop Sign:
    • Are you checking out the traffic?
    • Are you yielding?
    • Are you braking correctly?
    • Are you doing a full stop?
    • Are you close by the stop line?
  • Freeway or Highway driving (entering, merging, passing, exiting):
    • Are you checking out the traffic?
    • Are you signaling correctly?
    • Are you speeding?
    • Are you leaving enough space in front of you?
    • Are you in the correct lane?
    • How is your steering control?
  • Driving backwars:
    • Are you checking out the traffic?
    • Are you signaling correctly?
    • Are you speeding?
    • How is your parallel steering control?
    • Are you looking through the rear-view window?
  • Three point turn:
    • Are you checking out the traffic?
    • Are you signaling correctly?
    • How is your steering control?
  • Turns:
    • Are you checking out the traffic?
    • Are you signaling correctly?
    • How is your steering control?
    • Are you decelerating/braking?
    • Are your turns too wide or too narrow?
    • Are you doing unnecessary stops?
    • Are you stopping at the limit line?
